A warm, sculptural wide-brim straw hat inspired by the colours and textures of the Australian landscape, individually designed and hand-finished by Bateman Original Designs.
The natural woven straw provides a beautifully simple foundation, allowing the handcrafted detailing to become the focus. Around the crown sits a band of embroidered calico, bringing soft texture and a natural finish to the design.
The calico has also been used to create the sweeping sculptural loops at the side of the hat. Each section has been wired and shaped by hand, allowing the ribbon to curve and move around the floral arrangement rather than simply sitting flat against the crown.
Inside those loops is an unexpected detail: the calico has been lined with dusty pink satin ribbon. As the hat is viewed from different angles, the soft pink lining appears in flashes, giving the natural cream and straw tones a subtle feminine contrast.
The floral arrangement combines three different styles of flowers, bringing together bright yellow, rich orange and deeper red tones with green foliage. Taller yellow stems add height and movement, while the larger flowers sit lower within the loops, creating a design that changes as the hat turns.
From one side, Bushland Canvas appears almost restrained, with its natural straw and embroidered band. Turn it around and the full composition reveals itself — sculptural calico, dusty pink satin and a bold burst of colour.
